Alexandrite Information
Alexandrite is the alternate birthstone for the month of June. It was named after the Russian Tsar Alexander II. The unique characteristic of Alexandrite is its ability to change color of the gem from a soft shade of red in incandescent light, to a bluish-green in natural daylight. Alexandrite is very scarce, making it one of the most valuable gems. Originally found only in Russia, in 1987 a source of Alexandrite was discovered in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Other sources now include Burma, Madagascar, and India.
